Welcoming children with special educational needs the design element of this project was crucial. There are features included within the building design to ensure that every child has the best environment to feel safe and secure and allow the teaching and support staff to support every child to the best of their ability.
Quiet areas were incorporated into the building design so that any child who was feeling overwhelmed could escape to and receive the support they needed in a safe area.
Large classrooms with plenty of open space were important so that the teaching staff could encourage active learning and the children could have the freedom to express themselves freely.
The external area was just as important as the internal layout. The building was needed to be built into a small area within the existing site, so ensuring connectivity to the adjacent and adjoining classrooms was very important.
Keeping disruption to a minimum was of real importance so building work was completed during the school summer holidays and completed in time for the new term.
